Teens

Are you feeling anxious most days?  Or struggling with a critical internal voice that makes it hard to be yourself?  Do you have low self-esteem that is negatively impacting your school or social life?  Or are you having trouble navigating relationship dynamics with friends and family?  If any of these experiences resonate with you then therapy may be right for you.

Why Teen Therapy?

Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone to talk to who is not your caregiver, parent or friend.  During therapy we can explore all aspects of your life in a nonjudgemental and compassionate space.    You get to decide what we work on together in each session.  I will help you build a toolbox of strategies to help you regulate emotions, take care of yourself, and be authentically you as you move through this transformative period of you life.

What will we talk about for 50 minutes?

ANYTHING!  Whatever topic feels meaningful and relevant to your life is welcome.  Some topics that we could explore include:

  • Anxiety
  • Low Self-Esteem
  • Friendship conflicts/dynamics
  • Peer Pressure
  • Social Media
  • Body Image
  • School Stressors/Expectations
  • Family Conflicts/Dynamics
  • Puberty and Changing Bodies
  • Identity Exploration/Confusion/Disconnection
  • Gender
  • Sexuality

Is Therapy Confidential?

Rest assured, in almost all areas teen therapy is private and confidential.  However, if I learn of any abuse or self-harm that you are experiencing I will take steps to keep you safe.  This may mean that I will have to break confidentiality to get you the resources and support you need.  In our first session we will also talk about the other rare cases that I may need to break confidentiality.  In these situations I will always have a discussion with you before I take any steps in sharing your confidential information.

Also, when needed, I will check in periodically with your parent(s)/guardian(s) about your progress, but not without discussing with you beforehand the topics and themes that you are comfortable having me share with your family.  You are my client and my role is to support you in any way that I can.
